Just wondering how do you go about writing setlists from night to night?
First thing I look at is what we played last time we were in that city/area, and what we played the last 2 nights of the current tour.
So I eliminate those songs. Then I try to get a mix of new and old tunes. This past tour I was putting on 2 or 3 brand new songs every night, then a few from the latest album, and then some older stuff.
Then I try to get a good balance of tempos, tonalities (major/minor), and styes.
Lastly I see if any songs might work well segued together, and then I work on getting a good flow to the show. Usually I like to come out with something strong, and have the whole set build toward the end.
Spritualize is my all time favorite song. I listen to it all the time. The sound is incredible. Who came up with it and how? I'd love to know the background of the song and where it came from...Lotus responded on 03/15/2012 Next question
Songs like Ridalin or Sour Cherry only got a few plays and then were shelved. How do you decide which new songs stay and which to shelve after a few plays? Is it based on crowd reaction?Lotus responded on 03/28/2012
